April 27: Another Side Of Laura Corbett
I am supporting Laura Corbett for mayor of Tyler and would like to tell you about the side of Laura she won't tell herself.
Ever since I've know her, her faith is shown in her everyday actions. While volunteering at Mother Frances ICU, family members often did not have cell phones or calling cards. She would give them her personal cell phone to use.
As general manager of the Holiday Inn, every year she would pick out, purchase and wrap personal gifts for all 75 employees. She wanted them to know how special they were, and make sure they had a wonderful Christmas.
Not only did she give one of her kidneys to her brother, she was so concerned about family and friends sitting in the uncomfortable waiting room chairs she hired a massage therapist to keep us relaxed and clam during the two surgeries.
While on the City Council she did not get paid, but would have received a nice gift from the city for her six years of service. She asked the city not to give her a gift, but instead to make a donation to the Ramey Elementary playground fund.
She has a true caring and compassionate spirit. Not only will she bring leadership and experience to the city of Tyler, she will bring much needed compassion.
