Cotton Belt Historical Society Chapter Train Show Today In Tyler
Cotton Belt Historical Society Tyler Chapter will hold its annual train show on 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Harvey Convention Center in Tyler.

Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

Proceeds will benefit the Cotton Belt Depot Museum, at 210 East Oakwood St. in downtown Tyler.

The train show will feature five major model train layouts as well as railroad-related merchandise for sale.

The Cotton Belt Depot Museum is operated by volunteers from the Cotton Belt Rail Historical Society and is open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday.

The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts from the Cotton Belt Railroad and the famous Bragg Collection donated to the City of Tyler by Sharon Bragg.

The depot was built in 1905 and began serving passengers on the Cotton Belt rail line in 1907.

Service continued through the mid-1950s, and the railroad used the building for offices and storage until 1987. In 1988, the Southern Pacific Railroad donated the building to the city of Tyler.

The city used federal transportation grants, half-cent sales tax funds and a grant from the Vaughn Foundation to restore the historic building, and it reopened for use as Tyler Transit offices in 2003.

Admission to the museum is free.

For more information on the museum or today's event, call Glenn Wilkins 903-316-9319.
