League Plans Candidate Forum
The League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County will hold a forum for candidates for all May local elections at 7 p.m. April 21 at the Tyler Public Library, 201 S. College Ave.

Bass Plans Campaign Rally
The Barbara Bass for Mayor campaign will hold an Old Fashion Political Rally and Hot Dog Picnic 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Harvey Convention Center, 1998 W. Front St.

Ms. Bass faces Laura Corbett and Keith Pyron in the May 10 election for Tyler mayor.
New Staff Member Joins Hopson
The State Rep. Chuck Hopson, D-Jacksonville, has announced a new district public affairs coordinator for his Jacksonville office. Wendy Denver Dean will assist in preparation of legislative bills, helping constituents and managing both the Jacksonville and Henderson offices.
Hall Receives 'Spirit' Award
Congressman Ralph Hall has received the "Spirit of Legislative Excellence Award" from the East Texas Association of Health Underwriters. The award was presented to Hall, a Republican from Rockwall, last week at the group's regular meeting at the Hollytree Country Club.
Cherokee Dems Meeting Thursday
A combined meeting of the Cherokee County Democratic Club and the Texas Democratic Women will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jim Hogg Park on Texas 84 East in Rusk. The event will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the local TDW chapter. Among those who will be honored are Susie Blackmon, Cindy Richards, Craig Caldwell, Madeleine Ross, Teresa Phifer, Forrest Phifer, Patsy Lassiter, Sammi Attaway, Patsy Morehead, Lillian Duffie, Cyndi Reed, Joan Pace and Laverne Lusk.

Brock Elected To LWV Board
Tyler resident Dee Brock was elected to the board of directors for the League of Women Voters of Texas during its biennial convention in Fort Worth. She's a former president of the League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County. She's also a co-sponsor of the Great Decisions discussions at the Tyler Public Library each spring, and helps facilitate forums and projects such as EarthSmart.
Rusk Dems Meet
The Rusk County Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the community room of the Henderson Federal Savings Bank, 130 N. Marshall Ave. The public is invited.
