East Texans are invited to wine, dine, enjoy country music and have a chance to adopt some furry friends this weekend - all in the name of a good cause.

Country star and Lindale native Miranda Lambert will host "Cause for the Paws" Wine Tasting Festival Sunday, benefiting the Humane Society of East Texas.

The festivities begin 3 p.m. Sunday at Villa di Felicita in Tyler.

Gates will close promptly at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $125 per person and are limited to the first 600 people.

The organization will lose approximately $200,000 in revenue in 2008 due to a decision not to renew animal sheltering contracts with the city of Tyler and Smith County Animal Control, according to Humane Society officials.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Humane Society of East Texas and will help offset that loss.

The venue is located on Highway 110 North in Tyler.

Ms. Lambert has been a supporter of the Humane Society of East Texas for several years and has encouraged her fans to make donations to the Humane Society rather than give gifts to her, according to organizing officials.

Ms. Lambert first exploded onto the scene as a finalist in the 2003 season of the Nashville Star television series.

Her debut single "Kerosene" hit the top of the country charts and went on to earn Lambert nominations for the CMA's Horizon Award and the ACM's Top New Female Vocalist Award.

It also earned her a Grammy nomination.

In 2007, Miranda adopted Delilah, a small, white, long-haired terrier, from the Humane Society.

Also appearing with Ms. Lambert at the "Cause for the Paws" will be country entertainers Blake Shelton and Kacey Musgraves.

Activities at the event include a silent and live auction, food and wine tasting, a Meet and Mingle VIP private cocktail party for sponsors of the event and a concert featuring all three entertainers at 6 p.m.

Miranda's dog Delilah will also be on hand - as well as adoptable shelter dogs looking for a home, such as Marcus, pictured at left, a 1-year-old terrier mix.

All donations are tax deductible.
