SAR Nationals Bound
LINDALE - Philip Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hayes, won the Sons of the American Revolution Texas State Competition on March 29 in Arlington.

Hayes, a Lindale High School student, took home $1,000 from the state competition and will advance to nationals in Sacramento, Calif., in July to compete for $3,000.

LHS speech teacher Ms. Janice Caldwell presented the contestants for the Rumbaugh Contest at the Capt. William Barron Chapter, Tyler, SAR in January. She also was named teacher of the year for the second year in a row.

The Rumbaugh Oration Scholarship Contest is annual and open to all high school students in the Smith County area. Those interested can contact Tom Copeland at tomcopeland@sbcglobal.net or by phone at 903-939-0801.
