Runoff Election On Tuesday
Runoff elections for the March 4 party primaries will take place on Tuesday.
On the Republican side, Smith County Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobby Van Ness faces challenger Terry Phillips in a runoff.
Also, Precinct 3 Constable candidates Dustin Rust and Gary Guthrie face off for the GOP nomination.
On the Democratic side, no local races went into a runoff. There's one Texas Railroad Commissioner race, between Dale Henry and Mark Thompson.
League Plans Forum
The League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County will hold a forum for candidates for all May local elections at 6:30 p.m. April 21 at the Tyler Public Library, 201 S. College Ave.

Perry Appoints Wallace
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Patrick Wallace of Athens to the Office of Rural Community Affairs, which supports community development for rural areas of the state. Wallace's term will end Feb. 1, 2011.
Wallace is an administrator at the East Texas Medical Center of Athens. He is a past chairman of the Texas Hospital Association.
Smith GOP Meets
The Smith County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Heartland Ham Company, 3400 S. Broadway Ave.

Gohmert To Speak
Congressman Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, will be the featured speaker at a dinner held by the Rose Capital chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, at 6 p.m. Friday at the Tyler Women's Building.

Smith County Government Week
Smith County will celebrate National County Government Week, April 6 through 12. Activities will include a children's drawing contest and inviting school-age children to attend a Commissioners Court meeting. Other activities will focus on county employees, and will include a health fair, a luncheon and an Employee of the Year award.
"Smith County is proud of the variety of services it provides to the community," County Judge Joel Baker says. "NCGW is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what we do, how we do it, and the people behind the services we provide."
