Candidates' Campaign Finances Cover Wide Spectrum
Some campaign finance reports filed late show financially lopsided races for Smith County sheriff and for Smith County Commissioners Court Precinct 1.

In the Precinct 1 race, Jeff Warr, Mike Boyter and Derrell Cooper are vying in the March 4 Republican primary to replace outgoing Commissioner JoAnn Fleming.

Warr met the Tuesday deadline in filing his campaign finance report, which showed $13,450 in contributions, and expenses so far of $2,384.80. He reported cash-on-hand of $12,065.20, and a loan from himself of $1,000.

Boyter and Cooper both filed their reports on Wednesday.

Cooper shows total political contributions of $200, with total expenditures of $4,911.30. He lists a $6,000 loan he made to his campaign in November. His cash on hand is listed as $1,288.70.

Cooper's sole contributor was Joe McMahan, for the $200 sum. Cooper's expenses include $360 to Northland Cable, $108.20 to Randy Phillips, $79.72 to Home Depot, $18.38 to Office Depot, $750 to the Republican Party for his filing fee, $2,100 to Anderson Graphics, and $1,388.38 to Designer Graphics.

Boyter lists no political contributions, and $21.68 in expenditures. That was to Sav-On Office Supplies. He lists no cash on hand.

In the sheriff's race, Andy Dunklin, who also filed late, is seeking to unseat incumbent Sheriff J.B. Smith. His report shows no political contributions, and $840 in expenditures ($750 for his filing fee, and $90 in hall rental). Dunklin also lists no cash on hand.

Smith, whose report was filed on time, reported contributions totaling $7,460.07, and total political expenditures of $11,583.21. His cash-on-hand at the filing of the report was $84,319.70 (most of that comes from a June fundraiser).

Smith's contributors in the most recent reporting period were listed in the Wednesday edition of the Tyler paper. That June fundraiser took place before the reporting period began, and is listed in a previous report. Smith's July campaign finance report lists these major contributions:
