Predictions Sure To Go Very Wrong
Chase Colston
Thanksgiving is just over a week away and the football playoffs are here.

You got to love that 80-degree weather in November to really get you in the mood for football and food.

But if the weather doesn't do it for you - like most of us who actually appreciate a shift in the Texas climate every now and then - maybe another year of sure-to-go-wrong playoff predictions will do it for you.

Only in baseball is going 3-for-10 a good thing. I guessed three of the 10 state champions (5A-1A) correctly last year. Here's betting that I do worse this year.

Drum roll, please.

Class 5A Division I: Take your pick from Allen, Odessa Permian and Galena Park North Shore.

It may not be a very long limb to go out on, but I'll go out nonetheless and say that Mojo is back and Permian relives the glory days. Just no Billy Bob Thornton or Tim McGraw cameos.

Class 5A Division II: Southlake Carroll. The one loss the Dragons have over the past however many years came to a team they won't face in the state championship.

Southlake Carroll still owns this state until someone beats them. Could No. 1 Katy do it again? Doubtful.

Class 4A Division I: Seven of the top 10 teams in 4A are in the Division II bracket. That should make this one a little easier to guess, but it's not.

Let's play rankings and go with No. 5 New Braunfels.

Class 4A Division II: My head says Highland Park, but I'm not gonna do it.

Waco's only loss this year came to Euless Trinity, which is ranked seventh in 5A. I'll take the Lions.

Class 3A Division I: I gave Gilmer the ultimate kiss of death last time, so I'll avoid that prediction.

Royse City is enjoying its last year in 3A and that city is booming with people and athletes. If the Buckeyes and Royse City meet up, don't miss it, but Royse City takes state.

Class 3A Division II: Let's go with Giddings. Ranked No. 1 for I don't know how many weeks and completely dominating its opponents. Seems like a safe bet for now.

Class 2A Division I: Going with Tatum to win its third straight state title. After beating Elysian Fields for the district title, I had no doubts on this one.

Class 2A Division II: What a sight it would be to see two state champs from the same district like Garrison and San Augustine did it four years ago.

But I don't see anybody beating Mart this year. It has the state's second-longest winning streak and won't lose a state title this season.

Class 1A Division I: Alto, Alto, Alto, Alto.

So the Yellowjackets are giving up five points per game and not 0.8 like last year at the end of the regular season. So what?

Alto does have the state's longest winning streak and it will not stop anytime soon.

Class A Division II: Roscoe has lived under Alto in the top 10 poll all year. Since the UIL can't let us have the possibility to watch the top two teams play each other for a title, we'll just let Roscoe win the other division.

---

Hope you enjoyed another year of predictions that will definitely go wrong.

Now go get your t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops and go watch some winter playoff football.
