NEW ASSIGNMENTS
Wendell Roberts was named vice president of ambulatory services for Trinity Mother Frances Health System, officials announced.

Roberts received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., and completed his master's of science degree in business administration at Queen's University in Charlotte, N.C. His experience includes ambulatory vice president at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and at the University of North Carolina Healthcare System in Chapel Hill, N.C. He also served as chief executive officer at Specialty Hospital of South Carolina at Charleston.

Physicians and staff of East Texas Vascular Associates PA welcomed Dr. David L. Young to their practice.

Young practiced in Arlington and Fort Worth for eight years prior to coming to Tyler. He graduated from Texas A&M University College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta, serving his final year as chief resident. Dr. Young said he enjoys the full spectrum of general surgery, with primary interests in breast and gastrointestinal surgery.

The East Texas Council of Governments announced it hired Lindsay Vanderbilt as its first public information officer. She began her new position Oct. 15.

Ms. Vanderbilt is responsible for media relations, serving as a spokeswoman for the organization, developing communication strategies and being the organization's source for public information. She most recently served as community pride coordinator for Longview Partnership, where she promoted partnerships to increase local cleanup and beautification initiatives and directed the nonprofit organization Keep Longview Beautiful.

Exceptional Home Care announced five new employees.

They are: Christina K. Hoffmeyer, registered nurse, who graduated from Tyler Junior College and lives in Whitehouse; Caroline Brown, licensed vocational nurse, who graduated from Kilgore College and lives in Longview; Debbie D. Whitehorn, licensed vocational nurse, who graduated from Tyler Junior College and lives in Hallsville; Lisa M. Anderson, who graduated from Tyler Junior College and lives in Jacksonville; and Jordon D. Hunsberger, receptionist, who lives in Chandler.

Eagle Auto Glass announced the addition of Adam Mathis to its staff.

Mathis, who moved to East Texas from Phoenix, has expertise as a glass technician on high-end import and domestic automobiles. He has 15 years of experience in the auto glass industry.


ACHIEVEMENTS
Rogers Pope Jr., president and chief operating officer for Texas Bank and Trust Co. in Longview, announced the bank was named Funder of the Year by A Circle of Ten Inc.-Network for Collaboration, and was honored at the Sixth Annual Funders' Forum and Network Gathering, Thursday and Friday in Athens.

Gaylene Swanson, senior vice president, accepted the award on behalf of the bank.

Each year a committee nominates a funder that has impacted East Texas on a wide basis, selecting services needed in rural areas, covering wide geographical areas and providing funding in amounts that make a positive difference in nonprofit agencies' abilities to grow services.

Brain Gym International announced MaryAnn Girard was chosen to receive the 2007 Outstanding Service Award in appreciation of her contributions and dedication to the worldwide Educational Kinesiology Foundation.

Ms. Girard, executive director of Smith County Champions for Children, is a licensed Brain Gym instructor and consultant. She presents workshops for child care and school age teachers throughout the state and provides individual consultations with children and adults.

The Shaffer Trucking terminal in Wilmer named Ignatius Edoh of Tyler its driver of the month for August.

Edoh is a member of the Minute Maid dedicated fleet based in Waco. In six years of driving, Edoh has logged more than 700,000 accident-free miles, including more than 300,000 miles during his three years with Shaffer, officials said. He will receive a plaque and compete with drivers of the month from 13 other fleets for Shaffer Trucking's Driver of the Year award in December.

Barbara Ward, a Tyler resident and independent consultant with BeautiControl, an international manufacturer and party plan direct-sales company, was awarded a trip to Costa Rica as part of the company's annual awards program.

Ms. Ward earned the trip for strong sales and recruiting initiatives.


NEW BUSINESS
Insurance agent Jim Toman announced the opening of his new independent agency, 728 WSW Loop 323 in Tyler. An Allstate agent for 23 years, Toman sold his agency June 30.

In his new agency he sells auto, home, commercial, life and health insurance from companies that include The Hartford, Safeco, Travelers, Mercury, Encompass, AIG, Progressive, GMAC, Met Life and health companies Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Unitrin.

Randy Marshall, leader of Speaker's College, a Dallas-based communications training company, will be guest speaker at the East Texas Estate Planning Council meeting at Hollytree Country Club. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and the program at 12:30 p.m. Continuing education credit is available to certified public accountants and attorneys. Buffet-style lunch is $20.
