QUEEN'S TEA HOSTS: The Texas Rose Festival Queen’s Tea is hosted by, from left, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Ramey III and the Texas Rose Festival Association, represented by Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Clawater III.
In keeping with the theme, "Nature's Majesty," organizers of Friday's 2007 Queen's Tea selected organic shapes, colors and tones as a backdrop for the event, held in conjunction with the 74th Texas Rose Festival.
The event, "Nature's Tea in the Rose Garden," is planned for 3-5 p.m. at the Tyler Rose Garden, 420 Rose Park Drive. In case of rain, activities will be moved indoors at the Rose Garden Center.
Queen Grace Hartley Ramey will be seated on a rustic but elegant wooden garden structure under a tall, barrel-vaulted shade shelter. A separate shelter will cover an oblong tea table. The shade cloth of these structures and the color palate of the tea are a blending of muted green colors, tea organizers said.
The event is hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Ramey III and the Texas Rose Festival Association, represented by Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Clawater III, in honor of Queen Grace, Duchess of the Rose Growers Amanda Joan Henson and the ladies-in-waiting of the Tyler court.
The garden structure was hand-hewn of Eastern White Cedar harvested from the Catskill Mountains of New York state.
The queen's seating was made by Rob Davis of Romancing the Woods fame, who has designed and built cedar gazebos, pergolas, tables, benches and fencing for many public and private gardens, homes and institutions across America, organizers said.
Davis also hand-built the cedar stools for Queen Grace's young attendants.
Floral arrangements for the tea will feature roses in shades of white, arranged with natural materials reflective of the woodlands.
Tea tables, dressed in custom cloths featuring dragonflies, will lend a sophisticated, yet playful tone to the tea, which features cookies and punch. The cloths, specifically selected by Sue Calhoun of Tyler's Table Tops, feature many yards of muted shades of English tulle to give a soft and playful look to round tea tables set with silver.
The duchess of the rose growers and the ladies-in-waiting will be seated under large, mossy green, oblong umbrellas to shade them from the October sun.
The Queen's Tea has been designed and implemented by Barbara W. Ward and Jay T. Ward of Jay T. Ward Design Associates of New York.
Royal attendants include escort to the queen Samuel Bracken Walden; trainbearers Mallory Kristine Curtis and Sarah Beth Michelle Rogers; scepter bearer Smith Perry Reynolds IV; royal attendants Elizabeth Reid Walker and Ann Caswell Ferguson; and maiden to the queen Molly Louise Berry.
The roles of junior hostesses and servers will be filled by children and young people from the community.
Committee members and their responsibilities include Chair Kelley Brownlow; junior hostesses, Jennifer Alden, Resa Clarke and Renee Faulconer; media coordinator, Linda Rowe; name tags, Shawn Bergfeld and Jennifer Rainer; publicity, Kelley Brownlow; punch servers and runners, Sally Martin and Anne Moody; queen's guard, Elizabeth Chilton and Caroline Wiley; refreshment coordinators, Jill Hickerson and Cindy Robinson; security, David Lisner; table monitors, Paula Brookshire, Molly Holbrook, Stephanie Nickel and Callie Northcutt; tea day coordinators, Martha Bain and Kelly Lansford; tea waiter chair, Lorie Farrar.
