ORDER OF THE ROSE OFFICERS: Order of the Rose officials for 2007 include, from left, chairman, Julie Brown, president Jay Ferguson and secretary/treasurer Andy Bergfeld.
The Order of the Rose will sponsor the 2007 Queen's Coronation Ball, known this year as the "Butterfly Ball," honoring Queen Grace Hartley Ramey and her court. The gala celebration will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Harvey Convention Center, Tyler.

The presentation of the queen and her court will begin at 8 p.m. Past presidents of the Order of the Rose will present bouquets of roses to each member of the court as they are introduced by master of ceremonies Barry Hanson.

Guests at the Butterfly Ball will walk a hunter-green carpet under arches of wild vine, accented with roses and glittering butterflies. Entering the foyer beneath a multi-colored swarm of the ephemeral fliers, they will be greeted by a flock of colorful tropical birds, including live macaws and cockatoos, in a tropical rain forest setting with sparkling fantasy creatures and a rock waterfall, event spokesperson Suzie Rippy said.

"Moving down the nature walk, wild blooming vine arches entwined with rustic jute against hunter-green sateen beckon into varied majestic natural environments. Investigating these sylvan vignettes, guests will discover that they can mingle in the Waterfall Lounge, featuring a mural of the great North Woods boasting an animated waterfall," Ms. Rippy said.

Later in the evening, dinner will be served in a darkened grotto from moss-laden buffet tables that appear to float in pools of moonlight.

The ballroom will be transformed into an Arcadian fantasy of a deep primordial forest. Fireflies and glittering candlelight illuminate the path through the woods where the queen and her court will be presented down the extended runway under swarms of colorful butterflies.

Rose and butterfly centerpieces by Raymond Kreuger of Jerry's Flowers will be spotted from overhead, "as if each table were in its own moonbeam," Ms. Rippy said.

The picturesque environments and dramatic lighting are created by Jim and Jayna Monroe of JCM Special Events Inc., Dallas.

For her presentation, Queen Grace has selected an elegant silk faille gown designed by Amsale of New York. The gown features an intricately hand-draped bodice with a dramatic sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps. The sweeping circle skirt forms an A-line silhouette, and the back of the gown features an origami-inspired sash. The queen's look is completed by a rich silk satin ribbon in deep sage to accent the waistline of her gown.

The menu for the Queen's Butterfly Ball has been created by Leah Owen, owner of Joseph's Catering of Tyler. Guests entering the ball will enjoy passed hors d'oeuvres including crab tostados, olive crostinis, chicken quesadilla horns with tomatillo salsa, smoked salmon on pumpernickel with ginger-lime cilantro butter and roasted red pepper hummus on jicama stars.

Following the presentation, a dinner will be served which begins with a salad of radicchio, watercress and arugula with parmesan curls and scallions, dressed with a Dijon white wine vinaigrette. Several entrees include peppered beef tenderloin topped with a warm stilton and cognac sauce as well as a pan-seared chicken breast topped with proscuitto, spinach and mushrooms in a shallot cream sauce. Vegetables round out the menu with an herb roasted potato medley, baby carrots, haricot verts, and pearl onions as well as Tomato Rockefeller.

Dessert will be served in the Waterfall Lounge and an array of desserts will tempt guests such as Marquis au Chocolate, port poached pear topped with mascarpone, chocolate caramel tartlets drizzled with white and dark chocolate, mini cheesecake bites with raspberry sauce, and pyramids of dark chocolate truffles kissed with cocoa. Nearby, a gourmet coffee bar will complement the desserts. Additional catering services will be handled by Dakotas Chop House of Tyler.

Guests will dance the night away to the music of the premier Dallas party band Center Stage. For the 29th year, photography will be provided by Bob Delk of Delk Photography. Valet parking will be provided by Tyler Valet Services. Video production will be handled by Video Magic.
