Vesper's Service Scheduled For Bergfeld
Vesper's, the Texas Rose Festival's religious dedication service, was held Wednesday night in the amphitheater of Bergfeld Park.
The longtime festival tradition provides a time for those involved and the public to acknowledge God's blessings and is open to all.
Ross Strader, pastor of Bethel Bible Church, was to preside over a ceremony of song, prayer, reflection and worship.
The University of Texas at Tyler Chorale was to provide music.
The service was scheduled for the renovated amphitheater to encourage attendance by all in the community, organizers said.
Many Texas Rose Festival events, including the queen's coronation, were held in Bergfeld Park during the festival's early years.
The 74th Texas Rose Festival, "Nature's Majesty," officially began with a ribbon cutting opening the Rose Show at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Rose Garden Center.
Festival events include the Rose Show at the center, performances of the Rose Queen's Coronation on Friday, the men's and ladies luncheons on Friday, Queen's Tea on Friday afternoon in the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden and the Rose Parade on Saturday morning. Grace Hartley Ramey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom B. Ramey III, is this year's rose queen.
Amanda Joan Henson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henson, is the duchess of the rose growers.
